Biography
Adelaide was born to privilege and power, only child of Lord Edmund Caine. Raised on her father’s sprawling Georgia estate, she has known money and power from birth. Home-schooled by her mother in mundane subjects, and her father in the arcane, Adelaide never had a friend or playmate. Though she is the last of a long line of wizards and sorcerers, and Father's tutelage was rigorous and focused, Adelaide’s powers were apparently mediocre at best. Father was unable to hide his disappointment.
After the untimely death of her mother in her late teens, her father became despondent, and sent Adelaide off to France to study. In Paris, Adelaide fell in love with a young kineticist with a charming accent named Ian, and they used Adelaide’s wealth to tour Europe. In Budapest, they were caught in a Vampire clan's trap. Adelaide escaped, but Ian was turned. Adelaide ran, becoming a drifter and a thief for a while, drowning her sorrow in cheap Italian wine.
A chance encounter with a Romani witch in the marketplace of Florence led to a whole new style of magic. Under her instruction, Adelaide’s power began to flourish and blossom, and she discovered a flair for showmanship and flash that Father would never have condoned.
She returned to Budapest with her Romani mentor, and the two of them rooted out the nest of vampires. Her mentor spared her the agony of having to put down Ian herself, but his death still weighs on her conscience.
Adelaide returned to the US, but hasn't been near her Georgia home in several years. She keeps a low profile, but after abandoning her drifter ways, she found her trust fund is still flush and she lives well.
