Biography
A long time ago, as mortals reckon things, a Man claimed for himself a dominion and a title. He was known as His Imperial Majesty, Joshua Norton, by the grace of God, Emperor of these United States and Protector of Mexico. And naturally, he needed a Herald.
It is unusual for a Mortal, even an emperor, to retain the services of a fairy, but Norton was no ordinary man. And he Called a Wyldfae named Blacksparkle to his service through means both clever and tricky, and Blacksparkle has been bound to the Norton Imperial line ever since.
These days, that's Evangeline Norton. Or, properly, Her Imperial Majesty, Norton V, by the grace of God, Empress of these United States and Protector of Mexico. She retains the title and the Herald, though none of Norton's descendants have carried quite the same personal reputation as the original.
For now, Blacksparkle's job is simple: Do what the Empress tells them. Serve her interests in all ways, large and small. Protect the Realm.
It's hard, protecting the entirety of the United States and Mexico when you're only 8 inches tall. So for now, Blacksparkle is mostly trying to protect San Francisco. To do that, they have tried to ally with the other local Fae, with limited results. The Verdant Court in Golden Gate Park told them to leave and never return, on pain of cold iron death (something about the original Emperor Norton and an unpaid debt, apparently?). The Gingerbread Man, a fellow Herald, wasn't much more receptive, but did tell them about a group of semi-mortals that call themselves the ParaNet.
So that's where they are now - hanging out at this old mortal building full of 'books' about magic and other weirdness, allied with Mortals and sort-of-mortals, and trying to get by. Maybe those books have something in them about breaking generational binding. Of course, in order to make use of them... They'd have to learn to read.
