Biography

Nobody quite knows what to make of Frank. He’s a big guy, bald, kinda mushy looking. He just sort of showed up one day at Marla’s Place and started helping out, moving boxes, sweeping. He doesn’t talk much, doesn’t eat much. But he always has a smile for people.

The truth is, Frank isn’t real. He’s a construct, born of the fever dreams of one Julie Wilder. Julie’s a 13-year-old coma patient at UCSF’s long-term medical care facility. She’s completely unresponsive to normal stimuli, but an EEG nevertheless shows massive brain activity. The doctors surmise she’s invented her own world and is living in a dream state. They’re only partially wrong.

Had it not been for the accident, Julie would have been a wizard – might still be someday, if that wizard healing is all it’s cracked up to be. For now, though, she experiences the world as a dream, through the eyes of Frank. Since Frank’s just a construct, he isn’t terribly bright, but he’s strong and tough and pretty fearless. He’s sort of a cross between Baymax and Wreck-it Ralph and Mr. Clean. If he takes a liking to you, he’ll go to the ends of the earth to protect you. Or, he may just follow you around like a puppy.
